Wheelchair Fall Detection

Project Description:

The Wheelchair Fall Detection System is an IoT-based safety solution designed to monitor the stability of wheelchair users and automatically detect falls or tipping events. Using a combination of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and tilt sensors, the system continuously monitors the orientation and motion of the wheelchair. When an abnormal tilt or sudden fall is detected, the system instantly sends alerts to caregivers or emergency services via SMS, email, or mobile app.


Technologies Used:

  • Backend: PHP / Java / Node.js (for managing alerts and logs)

  • Frontend: HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript (dashboard or caregiver interface)

  • Database: MySQL / Firebase (to store events and user data)

  • IoT Hardware Components:

    • Microcontroller: Arduino / ESP32 / Raspberry Pi

    • Sensors: MPU6050 (gyroscope + accelerometer), Tilt sensor

    • Connectivity: Wi-Fi or GSM module (e.g., SIM800L)

    • Power: Rechargeable battery / wheelchair power integration

    • Alert Output: Buzzer, LED, SMS API, mobile notification
